Suspects in Owo Church Massacre Arrested, Says CDS General Irabor

The gunmen who carried out the deadly attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, on June 5, have been arrested,
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor disclosed on Tuesday.
No fewer than 40 worshippers were killed and scores injured when the gunmen, who stormed the church opened fire on the congregation. The terrorists also detonated explosives as the worshippers scampered for safety.
The CDS, who announced the arrest of the attackers on Tuesday during a parley with executives and editors of media organisations in Nigeria, said they were apprehended during joint operations involving the Armed Forces, the Department of Security Services (DSS) and the police.

Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State had in June arrested some of the suspects.

The Ondo State Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the arrest to journalists on June 23, had assured that all the suspects would be apprehended.

Adeleye had said: “As regards the Owo incident, we have recovered the last vehicle they used for that operation and we made some arrests and we have also recovered some vital things which we are working on.

“A number of people have been arrested concerning the Owo issue as well as a well number of equipment. On that day, we pursued them to the point that we recovered the vehicle and we are still pursuing them We have told you that until we get to the root, I can assure you that the perpetrators and their sponsors will be brought to book.”
