Tinubu Emerges Winner Of APC Presidential Primary

A former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.

Tinubu polled a total of 1,271 votes to beat the three other major contenders – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who scored 235, 316 and 152 votes respectively.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State scored 47 votes in the election held at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

More than 2,300 delegates voted in the contest that saw Tinubu’s emergence as the presidential flagbearer of the ruling party in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

Seven aspirants- a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi and his Jigawa State counterpart, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, had stepped down for Tinubu on Tuesday prior to commencement of voting.

Three other aspirants — Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Dimeji Bankole, as well as the only female aspirant, Uju Ken-Ohanenye also endorsed Tinubu and urged their delegates to vote for him.

“This is to certify that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared the winner.

“In line with the provisions of the constitution of our great party and by the power conferred on me as the Returning Officer of this special convention, I, Atiku Bagudu, do hereby declare Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of our party in the 2023 presidential election” said Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State who returned Tinubu as the elected candidate.
