The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee on Tuesday, October 24 met with the national chairmanship aspirants at the party’s secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi while welcoming the aspirants and supporters charged all of them to work for the unity of the party.
He further harped on the need to build the party and ensure that the PDP reclaims power from the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2019.
Markafi stated: “I want to make something categorically clear, some people think that as chairman, I should assume powers that I don’t have. There are write ups and comments spreading on various news platforms that the chairman is shy of being specific on the issue of zoning, people forget that we have no power beyond the convention, and may I remind all of us that the only thing the convention did was to Zone two positions, and as Chairman of the Caretaker committee, I cannot go beyond that the description.”
He further stated that the caretaker committee members are implementers of NECs decision, saying so far the two positions recognized by the Convention are only for the North and South, saying “no decisions of the party has been made beyond that.”
He said other issue will be further discussed in the 76th NEC meeting that is currently going on where guildlines for the most anticipated National Convention, come December 2017 will be stipulated.
