The police are believed to have detained two students of the Landoke Akinola University for allegedly protesting the continued closure of the school for upwards of seven months.

The university is jointly owned by two state governments- Oyo and Osun states , and their governments are instrumental to the upkeep of the institution.

On Friday , December 9 , the school’s students were said to have taken to the streets to protest the long months of lack of academic activities that have rendered the students redundant and almost frustrated.

Unknown to the students , the authorities were said to have engaged the police to disperse them.
Sources claimed the police resorted to shooting indiscriminately , and in the process , some students were allegedly wounded.

According to the source, the police whisked the wounded students to their headquarters in Ibadan , the Oyo State capital.

The students had therefore alerted the human rights community in the place to come to their rescue , claiming that their colleagues were on the verge of being killed.

Recently , Governors Raul Aregbesola of Osun State and his counterpart from Oyo , Abiola Ajimobi met on the lingering crisis in the institution and resolved to work together to retain the legacy of dual ownership of the university which was established after a man who played key role in the sociopolitical , economic and cultural life of the old Western region.

Unfortunately , the reasons for the continuing work to rule by the lecturers which was instrumental to the closure were yet to be dealt with.
