UBA Ondo Robbery: Police Launch Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects

The Ondo State Police Command has launched a search for the fleeing members of an armed robbery gang who attacked a branch of United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday.
The daredevil robbers, who laid a siege in the area, were said to have shattered the bullet-proof door of the bank with dynamites before they gained entrance into the banking hall.
 
The were said have carted away with an
 undisclosed amount of money from the bank’s vault.
A top police source told ArmadaNews via telephone on Friday that the police would spread their dragnet to Ondo and environs to ensure the fleeing robbers were nabbed.
He said that the police have already obtained statements from the bank’s staff who were on duty when the incident happened and from other witnesses around scene of the robbery to help them track down the criminals.
He also confirmed that three persons were killed during the operation including a popular journalist in the state, Olubunmi Afuye. 
According to him, the journalist and the motorcyclist ran into the armed robbers during the operation, while the policeman was killed by dynamited. 
Afuye, popularly known as ‘Bumbam’, was on his way to work when he met his sudden death.
Prior to his recent appointment as the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Elizade University, Afuye had worked with the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) and Orange FM.
