Muhammed Mahmood, Chairman, board of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and his daughter, Yesmin who were kidnapped on Monday have been released.
Mahmood’s aide, Hussain Danladi, confirmed their release on Tuesday.
Mahmood and his daughter were kidnapped on Monday along Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
Though Danladi said no ransom was paid for their release, other reports say N13 million was paid before their freedom was secured.
The driver of the vehicle was shot dead when gunmen shot at their vehicle.
Meanwhile, the police in Kaduna said they have arrested a man, Abdur-Rahman Ahmadu, in connection with the abduction of Mahmood, and his daughter, Yesmin.
Spokesman of Kaduna police, Yakubu Sabo, said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
The statement on Tuesday read in part: “IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar informed the general public that already one suspect has been arrested by the Police in connection with the incident and one AK47 Rifle with 29 rounds of ammunition was recovered in his possession.
“The suspect named Abdur-Rahman Ahmadu is undergoing interrogation in Police custody. Efforts are on course to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects.”
