Tunde Bakare, senior pastor of Latter Rain Assembly Church’s visit to Muhammadu Buhari was not just to ask the president to think about who succeeds him after 2023.
Bakare wants to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
He has never hidden his intention to be Nigeria’s President and believes he is most fitting for the office after Buhari.
During Bakare’s first sermon on Sunday, January 5, 2020, he told his congression that Buhari should be interested in who takes over from him when he is done with the office on May 29, 2023.
Bakare obviously has himself in mind to succeed Buhari as he does not believe most of the politicians jostling for the ofgice of the president are clean enough to continue from where Buhari would end.
National leader of the All Progressive Congress Bola Tinubu wants to succeed Buhari.
Kaduna state Governor Nasir el Rufai is also interested even though the north ordinarily is not supposed to take another shot at the office now after Buhari’s eight years as president.
Sources said Bakare who was once Buhari’s running mate believes he is most qualified to succeed the president.
Bakare haa repeatedly told his followers that God told him he will be President.
Buhari on his part has told his party members that he will not endorse any successor and pleaded with the APC to emsure that intra party wrangling does not destroy the party after his tenure.
Tinubu has noy hidden his desire to muzzle hia way thorough to become the next president if the party zones the slot to the South.
The South East is also strategizing for the office in 2023.
Former information minister Osita Chidoka chided Bakare for asking Buhari to “influence” his successor saying the electorate should be left to determine who rules over them in a democratic setting.
