The imposition of curfew in some communities in Kogi State by Governor Yahaya Bello has grounded social and economic activities in the state, Armadanews.com has learnt.
The affected local government areas include Okene, Adavi, Ogaminana, Ihima and Ogori.
The governor was said to have slammed curfew in the places as away of ending the recent frequent cases of high profile assassinations in the places.
Consequently, all markets, hospitals, clinics, medicine stores, mechanics workshops, shops, petrol stations, supermarkets, restaurants etc were shut down abruptly with the Kogi citizens remaining indoors.
An eye witness narrated his experience on Wednesday when he went to Kogi and passed through the affected areas innocently.
He said: “We drove through the ancient town of Okene about 11am today (Thursday) and the whole place was like a deserted war ravaged settlement. All shops, businesses and houses were shut. Virtually everyone was indoors or had ran away. Only few vehicles were speeding past via the major interstate road that dissected the town.
“We were so worried that I had to phone a colleague in Lokoja who told us that Govenor Bello had suddenly imposed 24-hr curfew on five LGAs in the state including Okene.
“He said the governor’s sole reason for imposing the total curfew was to curb the alleged frequent cases of high profile assassinations in the district. Isn’t this a case of killing the patient to silence the disease? I now believe that Kogi is seriously in deep shit today? What about you?”
